This is Malacca's oldest (1654) Chinese Temple. It is called Cheng Hoon Teng. The lions at the door symbolise parents. Chinese people use their left hand to rub the ball in the mouth of the male lion on the right and then pat the head of the female lion on the left. This is done as a sign of respect to their parents. The barrier you have to step over to get inside is to keep the evil spirits out. It is a fully functioning temple. While we were here we saw a young man undergoing a ritual to rid him of his back luck. It involved waving smoking joss sticks around him. He looked very troubled.
