After another Maike provided feast for breakfast we eventually left the apartment shortly after midday, on a rainy day, to pick up a bus tour of the city just before 1pm. We also met Britta a friend of Maike´s who came on the city tour with us. The tour was an on off tour meaning that we could hop off the bus and look at something in depth and then get back on the next tour. Our first hop off was a chocolate museum. We had intended to tour the museum but we never got past the cafe and its hot chocolate. Chris´ hot chocolate was the winner, It had chilli and tequila in it in it. Next to the cafe there was a chocolate shop which had a very good range at a very reasonable price. We bought some strawberry and pistacchio nougat which did not survive the bus trip. We aim to come back before leaving Koln to make some purchases that, we hope, might make it back to Australia
We then hopped back on the tour bus and our next stop was a cable car which crossed the Rhine. Conveniently the cable car crossed over a sauna which included a pool with naked people swimming around. We stayed on the cable car and came back across the river. Having got off the cable car we had some time to kill before the bus came around again so we visisted a neaby park which included some interesting (and some bizarre) modern sculptures.
After admiring the modern art we hopped back on the tour bus and compeleted our tour of Koln. Koln is an impressive place with the remnants of the city wall, many 800 plus year old churches and the Rhine coursing its way up the middle.
We then said good bye to Britta and went back to Maike and Lucas’ apartment for a home delivered meal of Chinese, pizza, pasta and salad.
