This was our longest day on the trail with an expected walk of 24.7kms and an expected walking time of 9:45. In contrast to this we actually walked 27.4 kms in just over 8 hours. We would have been quicker but the last 3 kms were quite windy and by this stage it was hot. The walk also included a short, but steep 150m climb before the final descent into the Goobarragandra River.
Most of the morning was spent walking alongside Micalong Swamp with extended for about 10kms from our camp. We also saw some wild cows and wild horses.
Once we had finished walking along the swamp we started the long and gradual descent down to the Goobarragandra river. The path took us via the “The Hole” which is an old shed roof on some remnant farm land and then down to Stony Creek where we had to endure a short sharp 150m climb before continuing our descent to the Campground and the Goobarragandra River.
The hill profile here has three parts.
1. The flat walk along next to Micalong Swamp towards it source.
2. A traverse through teh hugh plain up to near the top of Mount Nimbo (1,243m ) .
3. A descent to the Goobarragandra River punctuated by a short and steep climb out of Stony Creek, just to contnue our descent.
