This day wasn’t supposed to be a rest day, This day was supposed to be us walking 31kms of firetrail from Catholic Bushwalker’s Hut to Yerranderie.
When we arrived at Cathloic Bushwalkers Hut my ex-PwC colleague told us that he was driving to Yerranderie on Day 4, so if we hung around for a day we could get a lift into Yerranderie. This would save us a 31 km boring fire trail slog. After a very quick discussion, we happily accepted the offer and hung around for the rest of day, enjoying the company of the other campers.
I would have been quite content to sit on my bum all day and do nothing but talk to the other campers, but it seems that a group of them was going to to walk down to the Kowmung for a swim and walk back. The walk to and from the Kowmung had a 300m elevation change and was more than an idle wander, but down we went.
It was good to get down to the Kowmung and take in the views. You can see David on the other side of the river on the right hand side of this photo.
I wasn’t looking forward to the walk up, but by this stage we had met the others and we walked up with them. I followed a women up teh hill who was in her late 70’s and just managed to keep up.
Here is our path down to the Kowmung and back. The path was pretty overgrown and we lost it on the way down, which wasn’t much fun, since the bush was pretty thick. On the way back up we followed the locals who knew the way.
The hill profile is pretty self-expanatory. Start at Catholic Bushwalkers. Walk down the hill to the Kowmeng River and walk up again.
