Kattomba to Mittagong - Day 4

Catholic Bushwalker's to the Wollondilly River

This was a nice day. The PwC friend was driving into Yerranderie because there was to be a service to commerorate Val Lhuede’s life. Val used to own half of Yerranderie.  (I had met Val on three prior visits to Yerrranderie).

So we got a lift into Yerranderie and we keen to take part in the celebration of Val’s life but time was drifting on and nothing was happening quickly so we decided to get a head start on the next day and walk down the the Wollondilly.

Here is the inside Yerranderie’s Catholic Church. It is made from sandsotne, whereas the Church of England one is made from wood.

There was a be a service for Val then a morning tea and then spreading of Val’s ashes. I would have liked to stay and take part, but the opportunity to shorten the next day was too good to ignore. The next day was planned to be the hardest on the trail with 28km planned which include crossing over Beloon Pass and down Travis creek, both of which is hard work.

We decided to use the rest of the day to walk down to the Wollondilly and camp near the river in the Bushwalker’s corridor this would reduce the next day to a more manageable effort.

The walk from Yerranderie took us past the Twin Peaks property and down the centre fire trail to the Wollondilly. Once we got to the Wollondilly we found a suitable camping spot, where we dropped our bags and walked about 1km each way to ollect our food cache which, fortunately, was in tact.

The hill profile reflects a relatively easy walk with a long gradual downhill grade most of the way from Yerranderie to the Wollondilly river.
